Hilary Duff Joining Cast of Gossip Girl

Hilary Duff is trying to ruin Gossip Girl. Nooooooo!!!! Doesn’t she have a development deal with NBC? Does even the fourth-place network not want Duff’s stuff?!

Like it or not, the onetime Disney Channel tween star will show up on Gossip Girl Oct. 5 as Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at NYU to get a taste of normal college life. (Sounds like the plot of an ABC Family movie, no?) Olivia will conveniently be roommates with Vanessa and predictably hook up with Dan Humphrey, and you can expect her to stick around for at least a few episodes.

Duff’s comedy pilot for NBC, Barely Legal, was turned down by the network. So is Gossip Girl just taking any out-of-work TV stars now? Because we hear Lauren Conrad is a big fan of the show.
