Charlie Toft used to win awards for book criticism, but decided that reading was too much work. As a TV writer, his specialty is an encyclopedic and possibly unhealthy knowledge of American Idol.

VIDEO: SNL’s Jenny Slate Swears On Live Television

There have been dozens of cast members on Saturday Night Live over the years, but it’s doubtful anyone has ever had a more memorable debut week than Jenny Slate, who unleashed the granddaddy of all curse words on Saturday’s season premiere.

The incident occurred in the midst of a skit late in the show featuring tough-talking biker girls who were using the word frickin’ every third word or so. It seemed like an obvious setup for someone to make a mistake, and that’s exactly what happened when Slate’s character used the naughty version of frickin’ instead. Her body language immediately afterwards and the silence from the crowd indicated that everyone knew exactly what just happened.

The offending word was bleeped out in the west coast airing of SNL. NBC has had no comment on the incident so far, and there has been no word on whether Slate will face any repercussions, though cursing on the air is not unprecedented in SNL history. And the bright side is that people are talking about Slate’s mistake today instead of what was a very poor debut episode, which featured Megan Fox as the host.
