It's not a good week for gay-friendly TV. Not only did news break about Grey's Anatomy nixing a prominent lesbian storyline, but now The Simpsons is catching heat for using the word "gay" as an insult in its annual Halloween episode.

In Sunday's "Treehouse of Horror" episode, bully Nelson Muntz says "That's so gay" while taunting the school nerd, Milhouse.

Gay rights groups say that amounts to a gay slur.

"We're trying to educate people that this is a term that is hurtful to young people when used in a negative way. We want people to understand when it's inappropiate to use," says a spokesman for the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. "This is not exclusive to just young people, but is hurtful to all generations."

Meantime, ABC's Brothers & Sisters -- which includes a prominent gay character -- will address California's anti-gay Proposition 8 in an episode airing Sunday.
