Synopsis:
A Labor minister's daughter is kidnapped and then found murdered, bringing to the fore an affair the minister had years before with a tabloid editor. Lynley and Havers are brought on to investigate, with Havers sent to work with an officer named Robin Payne. As the editor's son is kidnapped and held for ransom, the questions continue to mount. When Lynley suspects the handwriting samples match Payne's handwriting, Havers finds herself in danger.
