We were just starting to be so over The Hills -- until MTV cleverly landed former reality TV bad girl Kristin Cavallari to rejuvenate the series in its fifth season. Well played!

We have fond memories of Lauren Conrad's former high school nemesis, who never failed to entertain with her distinctive California drawl and careless attitude. The New York Times famously declared that Kristin played the second season of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County -- a starring role which she inherited from Lauren -- like a game of lacrosse, and she emerged a ratings winner.

Now that Kristin is replacing the departing Lauren on yet another vapid-but-addictive reality series, who's the real star? We put the former rivals to the test in a TV Throwdown.

LOVE LIFE
In high school, Lauren and Kristin famously feuded over Stephen Colletti. But Kristin was his choice for prom date and actual girlfriend, while Lauren had to settle for a questionable spring break fling. After high school, Kristin dated Brody Jenner for two years. Lauren had a crush on Brody but eventually landed in the friend zone. Kristin's famous exes include quarterback Matt Leinart and actor Nick Zano. Lauren is now dating actor Kyle Howard, but off-camera. Kristin likes to play the field, and she doesn't mind flaunting it for the cameras. Kristin wins.

Lauren rolls with Brody Jenner, Frankie Delgado, Stephanie Pratt, Lo Bosworth and Audrina Patridge. Spencer and Heidi are on Team Kristin. The Hills will be "ten times better!!!" with Kristin instead of Lauren, Heidi tells Us Magazine. Of course, Kristin did introduce Heidi to Spencer back in the day, when Kristin was dating Brody. And for unleashing on the world the terror that eventually became Speidi, we have to penalize Kristin on this one. Lauren wins.

Lauren has publicly feuded with Jen Bunney (because she hooked up with Brody Jenner), Audrina (because she accused Lauren of hooking up with Justin-Bobby) and Heidi (because she hooked up with Spencer). Kristin played Queen Bee among her high school clique, but was generally pretty chill about everyone except Lauren. But we're hoping Kristin will ruffle some feathers with Jayde, who's now dating Brody, and Audrina, who's still possessive about Justin-Bobby. (Us Magazine hints that Kristin may hook up with Justin on The Hills.) On pure potential for bringing the drama, Kristin wins.

CAREER
Aspiring fashion designer Lauren has worked at Teen Vogue and fashion PR house People's Revolution. She debuted her designer label The Lauren Conrad Collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week in 2008, and recently announced a more budget-friendly partnership with Kohls. She's also written a book loosely based on her life titled "L.A. Candy."
Kristin co-hosted the short-lived UPN reality series Get This Party Started, but it was cancelled after two episodes. She also appeared briefly in an episode of Veronica Mars as a lesbian cheerleader. So far, her dreams of being a TV host or news anchorwoman have yet to materialize. Plus, she's now slinking back to reality TV after publicly dissing it a few years ago.
For being a multi-hyphenate career girl at the tender age of 23, Lauren wins this round.

LIFESTYLE
Lauren was born and raised in wealthy Laguna Beach, where her architect father eventually built a ridiculously lavish mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean (as seen on Laguna Beach and The Hills). Later, Lauren bought a spendy house in the Hollywood Hills complete with a guesthouse out back for Audrina. She's also often seen behind the wheel of luxury vehicles, most recently a silver Audi R8.
Kristin came from a less privileged background (remember that janky Isuzu Trooper she drove in high school until it broke down?) and bounced between her divorced parents until landing in Laguna Beach. Now, she could be living in a cardboard box for all we know. Lauren wins.
