It's a long time coming for the reality star, 23, who has lived the past five years of her life on camera. She previously appeared in Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County on MTV as a high school senior, before spinning off into her own series. The Hills premiered in 2006. It has since spun-off into a New York-based series, The City, starring Conrad's pal Whitney Port.

Though The Hills purportedly documents Conrad's personal and professional lives, she has been dating actor Kyle Howard off-camera for about a year. Conrad's desire for more privacy in her life is reportedly among the reasons she's leaving the show.

Will The Hills continue without her? Executive producer Liz Gately says they are evaluating the situation. Here's an idea: Bring back Kristin Cavallari!
