The Hills Recap: Audrina and Lauren Hug It Out

The fallout over Justin-Bobby continues, and Brody is no help.

Really, this episode recap writes itself. It's basically the fallout from last week's Audrina and Lauren fight about Audrina accusing Lauren of being with Justin, with the same scenes we've seen previously.

In the prologue, Lauren is in her room folding clothes! Again! This proves my theory that all Lauren does in her room is fold her clothes. Lo comes in to earn her meal ticket and talk about Audrina. Lauren tries to throw out a quote that she thinks sounds deep. Lo: "What would it take for you to forgive Audrina?" Lauren: "For her to be sorry." Thanks, Captain Obvious.

Audrina recaps her woes to Chiara at work. At first she asks Chiara what she did over the weekend, and Chiara of course says nothing, because of course if she did, it would be edited out. And of course, she was counting the days until she could come back to work and hear about Audrina's life.

Lauren and Whitney are pretending to catalog something at work and Lauren asks about "the boy" and Whitney says they've been chatting a lot on the phone, and he's been writing her. "He's so cute," says Whitney, he writes "xoxoxoxo" after every sentence. Really? xoxoxoxo That's cute? xoxoxoxo Doesn't that get kind of annoying? xoxoxoxo Whitney, always the voice of reason, tells Lauren that maybe Audrina really needs someone to talk to. Lauren mulls over it and I'm realizing that she's done something with her eyebrows that doesn't seem quite right.

Brody and Lauren are out by the pool, and Brody cuts to the chase with the question, "Why are you bangin' Justin Bobby?" which allows Lauren to jump right into her woe-is-me diatribe about how she's been treated. Brody's advice? Cut all the people in your life who cause drama. Hon, do you know where your paycheck is coming from?

Lauren and Audrina meet. These gals drop lots of money on fancy restaurants every time they need to talk something out. For a second, I feel bad for Audrina and she cries and says she has lost a sense of who she is. Audrina talks about how it was a hard situation for her because Justin has cheated with girls before so it is hard to know what to believe. Despite his piggishness, for a second I feel some remorse that Justin may no longer be on the show. Darn it, shameful crush! Am I being Captain Obvious if I suggest that being on this show isn't helping? Lauren tries to throw out another quote she thinks sounds deep: "It's not about trusting, it's about who you trust." She's almost turning into Dr. Seuss.

Our useless subplot is that Stephanie and Spencer visit their grandmother. Actually, Spencer guilt-trips Stephanie into visiting her. Spencer storms into her condo, telling her she's a bad granddaughter and passive-aggressively convinces her to skip work and school to go visit Nana. Wait, doesn't Heidi have work too? Is it really a good idea for her to be taking vacation days?

They go to Nana's in Huntington Beach, and Nana gets the white-block letter title of "NANA" and the description as "Spencer's grandmother" which gave me a chuckle. First, I'd like a DNA test to see if Nana really is their grandmother and not a hired actress. Secondly, Spencer needs a huge slap, as the whole time they were there he kept mentioning how Stephanie never visits Nana. As if Spencer and Heidi take time off from their staged paparazzi shots to visit Nana all the time. Stephanie just sits and takes it.

Her dilemma is obvious -- to cut Spencer out of her life means cutting her screen time, which would mean being relegated only to making small talk outside of class. Later, Stephanie does spend time with Nana, and talks about Spencer and how he treats her, and Nana has clearly never watched MTV or read Us Weekly, because she is clueless and tells Stephanie, sometimes "life is like a bucket of worms" and you have to sort through it ... or something. Thanks Nana. How the producers will get a whole other season out of these people's lives is beyond me.
