The Favorites Took the Fans to School on Survivor

Last week on Survivor, Cirie took advantage of being the swing vote in order to insist that Yau-Man be voted off. This week she will have to deal with the repercussions of that, as neither block of four is particularly happy with her power play. I think it is doubtful whether getting rid of Yau-Man is even in Cirie’s best interest; it is too early to vote out strong players (Yau-Man might look small, but he is always good at things that require accuracy, like throwing the coconuts last week), and if they lose the next Immunity Challenge, guess who will be wearing a great big target? To top it all off, Eliza, who is not a strong physical player under the best circumstances, is sick.

The reward challenge took place in a beautiful blue lagoon. (Erik should have felt right at home. You know, ’cause he looks like the guy from the movie.) Chet, who has either not been feeling well, is lazy, or both, sat out for the Fans. The challenge involved freeing floaty coconuts with letters on them from an underwater cage, then putting them together to form a word. The Faves dominated thanks to Ozzie’s strategy of moving coconuts forward in the cage to make it easier for his teammates, and James solving the puzzle almost immediately. They won some chickens (who hopefully will continue to lay eggs and NOT get eaten) and sent Kathy to Exile Island again (mean!) along with Ozzie.

Erik interviewed that he is pretty sure that Kathy is curled in the fetal position hating Exile Island, but she’s actually been enjoying getting some one-on-one time with the Favorites. Ozzie showed her how to work with the machete, but then sneaked off to look for the idol while he was ostensibly looking for food. Can you really blame Kathy for not wanting to keep going back and forth between the islands looking for it? Plus, why would she help a member of the other tribe? She’s still kind of a lame player, though. Well, of course Ozzie totally found the idol. Good thing he had a big hat to hide it under. He also took a page from Yau-Man’s book and hid a fake idol, but he only had time to whittle a stick a little bit before Kathy came nosing around.

The Immunity Challenge was one of those sliding hub obstacle courses, which are usually pretty entertaining to watch. The tribes didn’t get all tangled up, though, which was disappointing. The Faves negotiated the course quickly, and Eliza and Cirie made quick work of the puzzle. Well, that will give Cirie time to maneuver out of the position she put herself in, and Eliza time to get well before the Favorites’ next vote.

Back at the Fan’s camp (by the way, is it wrong that I am really enjoying not having to double-check the spelling of exotic tribe names every time I write one of these?) it was pretty clear that either Kathy or Chet would go home. Chet was pretty much the clear choice, and seemed resigned to going. Tracy tried to make a play to keep Chet (and thus delay her own ouster) by convincing Joel that this is his chance to get rid of Mikey.

At Tribal Council, Jason (the one with the Bon Jovi hair) interrupted Jeff Probst. (I didn’t know you could do that! The Island Gods are going to be so angry!) He wanted to urge his tribemates to keep the tribe strong because they’ve lost four of six challenges. Obviously it was a warning for those that might be thinking about voting for Mikey. I guess it didn’t work, because Mike got the boot. Wowie! When the Fans lost the Immunity Challenge, I thought it was gonna be a boring vote, but I guess I was wrong!

Next week: Merge! Medical emergency!!!
