What2Watch: How To Fashion A Winner

Bravo
Bravo is finishing up its first season of The Fashion Show a month ahead of the premiere of the first Project Runway season on Lifetime, and the results have been mixed -- it hasn't been up to the standards of vintage Runway, but it's by no means clear the original model is still a winner either, not after a lackluster fifth season and the uncertainty surrounding the network switch. Surprisingly, the aspect of The Fashion Show that has worked the best is the part I was at first most concerned with: Isaac Mizrahi, who has been much less of a boob than usual. Unfortunately, co-host Kelly Rowland has been about as useful as pockets on a wedding gown. The first half of the two-part season finale (Thursday, 10 p.m.) brings back some of the eliminated contenders to aid the finalists. Since viewers will vote on the winner, I suspect that the very talented but prickly Daniella probably can't win, nor can the gnome-like James-Paul. So that leaves Reco or Anna as the most likely champs, assuming neither totally falls apart on their last big test. Also this week: Monday: Here Come the Newlyweds (ABC, 10 p.m.): The previously eliminated newlyweds reunite to pick the second-season winner. Before this, the final two couples pay a visit to a retirement home in order to pick the brains of their elders regarding how to keep love alive. This is a modest little series, but there's no reason it can't become a summer regular. Tuesday: Rescue Me (FX, 10 p.m.): Damien is graduating and joining the squad, meaning that the time-honored hazing of the rookie is about to take place, with typical fireman's good taste. Tommy worries about keeping the kid safe on the job, while Sean gets his release from the hospital. Wednesday: Dark Blue (TNT, 10 p.m.): Debuting after the season premiere of the established Leverage is this cop series from the Jerry Bruckheimer assembly line, which stars Dylan McDermott as the head of an undercover unit whose members struggle with the psychological toll of the job. The pilot deals with the efforts of the team to break in a new member and solve the torture of an undercover FBI agent. Friday: Whale Wars (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.): The Sea Shepherd crew prepares its latest attack on the Japanese whaling fleet, even with the knowledge that the whalers have a new weapon which could create major problems. That's right: an even bigger problem than the dedicated kids on Sea Shepherd have in dealing with the fact that their leadership is completely idiotic. Saturday: Dirty Sexy Money (ABC, 10 p.m.): The alphabet network continues its summer grand tour of failed second-year series with the brief revival of this soap, which lost so much luster after its first few episodes. The Thanksgiving episode (how depressing) finds Letitia (Jill Clayburgh) holding her annual fashion show despite the hardship of house arrest, and the Darling family chauffeur giving the inside story to a reporter. Sunday: Labor Pains (ABC Family, 8 p.m.): Lindsay Lohan took some time out from her busy shopping/partying schedule to make this film, a mighty big comedown for someone who was starring alongside Jane Fonda not long ago. She plays a drone at a publishing company who fakes a pregnancy in order to prevent being fired. Never have I wanted so badly for life to not imitate art. Most Popular Stories
