Synopsis:
After they are married, Angel is finally ready to hear about Tess's past. He is shocked and agrees to remain married, but only in show. He goes to Brazil to open a farm. Tess finds a job on a farm where she reunites with her friends Marion and Izz. Tess again encounters Alec d'Urberville who is now a preacher. Alec claims to be a changed man and Tess tells him of their son. He proposes. Tess writes to Angel asking him to rescue her. After working the farm through a bitter winter, Tess returns home to care for her father. When he passes, Tess is forced out of their house. She writes again to Angel. Alec offers to support Tess and desperate, she goes with him. Finally returning home, Angel receives Tess's letters and goes looking for her. When he finds her she tells him Alex has won her back. Desperate Tess commits and act of violence and then turns to Angel for one last night together.
