Supergirl Lands on Smallville Season Seven

Pre-Crisis? Or Post-Crisis Kara? (If you’re a comic book nerd, chances are that’s what you’re thinking right about now.)

In any event, the CW has announced that Supergirl is scheduled to fly into the seventh season of Smallville. And, yes, you read that correctly: the Girl of Steel will be flying. The superheroine will be the latest DC Comics character to turn up on the series, following Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Brainiac.

Casting is currently underway for the role of Supergirl/Kara, Clark’s 19-year-old cousin. Like Clark, Kara was born on Krypton (she’s the daughter of Zor-El’s brother, Jor-El) and will end up clashing with Clark, running afoul of Lex Luthor, and getting romantically entangled with Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore).

“One of the joys of creating Smallville has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters,” said Smallville executive producer Al Gough. “Miles [Millar] and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season.”

Let’s just hope the show’s producers keep the character’s trademark micro-mini-skirt…
