Mother's Day on Wisteria Lane Means Lots of Mom Issues on Desperate Housewives

Last week on Desperate Housewives, the ladies invited trouble into their homes and this week it got worse: Mike's mom visited. Those of us with mother-in-law issues can certainly relate to Susan's angst. Believe you me, I am not a Susan fan, but this week I was in her corner.

Mike's mama was one of those southern ladies that believe a woman should be "a chef in the kitchen, a maid in the living room, and a whore in the bedroom." Her words, not mine. She proceeded to criticize Susan telling her that; according to her son, she had one of them right. After what Susan has had to put up with Mike, to find out that he's been complaining about her to his mama ticked me off. Yes, Susan has issues, but Mike knew about them before they got married. If they were such a problem for him, he shouldn't have married her. Throughout the episode his mama took potshots at Susan with Mike coming to his wife's defense only at the end when she went into labor.

Then there's the demon child that lives in Lynette's house. The whole family was supposedly being observed to help them become a better family. Lynette wanted the doctor to observe the brat, but got outsmarted again. The psychiatrist determined that Lynette and Kayla hadn't really bonded yet, and Tom concurs. During their bonding outing, Kayla guilted or maneuvered Lynette into buying her things. She pushed Lynette too far though, when she threatened to make baby Penny do something bad if Lynette didn't do what she wanted. Lynette snapped and slapped Kayla right in the middle of the store. Kayla used that to her advantage and got Tom mad at Lynette and then called the doctor and reported it and said it wasn't the first time.

The Bree/Edie war started in earnest. Bree caused Edie to lose a sale, and Edie found out from Orson's place about the baby's paternity. She threatened to use that information unless Bree agreed basically to do whatever Edie wanted. Bree pretended to bend, but then decided to tell the other ladies herself. Don't threaten Bree's family. The four of them -- Bree, Susan, Gaby and Lynette -- confronted Edie and told her that they wanted her to be one of them, but that she was from now on invisible to them. I almost felt sorry for Edie at the end of that dressing down.

Gaby and Carlos were enthused over their new boarder, until Gaby accidentally found her stash of drugs. When they went to the police, they fount out that they have her under surveillance, though they won't arrest her because they want her supplier. The Solis' wanted out of the situation, but because Carlos is a felon on probation, he was "convinced" to assist the police in their work. Later, Gaby felt bad when her boarder gave her a Mother's Day gift and said she's more of a mom to her than her birth mother.

And Catherine and Wayne had another disagreement over Dylan. She taunted him by implying that she had other men while she was with him and that she tricked him into believing that Dylan was his daughter. He had a DNA test run undercover and found out that he was NOT Dylan's dad. He watched some old videotapes and saw a scar on his daughter's arm, but later saw that Dylan does not have that scar. This story is getting weirder and weirder. I wonder if this has anything to do with this Dylan having no childhood recollections?

Anyway, next week is the two-hour season finale of Desperate Housewives and it looks like it will be another good one. Susan presents her new baby; Lynette is arrested; and Wayne is not done with Catherine... I can't wait!
