It's Time to Get Into The Hills Again
MTV
I have a confession to make. I've never seen an episode of The Hills . And the reason for that is I've always felt that I've never needed to. I mean, a quick flip through the latest issue of People magazine will give me the latest dish on Lauren Conrad and the gang. If I wanted to know LC's deepest, most intimate thoughts, I could read them straight from the source on her MySpace page. And if I wanted to see reenactments of these girls' lives, I could watch professional actors give it a try (contains NSFW language) rather than suffer through their own amateur attempts. So for three seasons, I've managed to avoid watching The Hills, but I haven't managed to avoid hearing all about the Lauren/Heidi feud (still enemies), Audrina's recent nudie pic scandal (she meant them to be artistic), and Spencer Pratt's latest career goal of the month (Last month: music producer! This month: advice columnist for Radar magazine!). I know that when the second half of the show's third season begins Monday night, Lauren will be on assignment for Teen Vogue in Paris, while Brody moves on with another girl back home. America's sourest sweethearts Heidi and Spencer will reevaluate their relationship after calling off their wedding. Whitney will face new career challenges when she decides to leave Teen Vogue. Tensions will rise between Lauren and Audrina when the show's sole brunette considers letting two losers back into her life: Heidi and ex-boyfriend Justin Bobby. And Spencer's sister Stephanie will infiltrate Lauren's inner-circle, but does she have an ulterior motive? You'll have to tune in to MTV Monday night at 10:00 to find out. Or just wait for next week's People to hit newsstands. But this season, I actually will be tuning in. Because isn't judging a show, or a person, based solely on gossip just a little bit high school? Don't the ladies of The Hills remind you of the pretty, popular girls in your class who you never actually spoke to, but thought you had a right to judge based on what everyone else said about them? So before calling Lauren and her friends fake or vapid again, I'm going to watch the show and give them a chance to prove me wrong. Maybe I'll make some new friends in my TV lineup. Besides, whether you love, hate, or love to hate Lauren and her friends (and frenemies) at least part of you has to admire a girl who could pull this off. Comments
