Gossip Girl: Bad Serena Is Back!
The CW
Can it really be possible that this was already the fourth of our five post-strike Gossip Girl episodes? I think after next week's finale, I'm going to be going through major withdrawal, just like Serena will be whenever she kicks her newly reacquired bad habits. The episode began with a mad search for S, who was failing to answer phone calls from both Dan and Georgina. Dan was waiting outside her hotel when he finally got a call from Serena's phone, except the voice on the other end was a bartender explaining Serena had walked out of his establishment with a bunch of guys, forgetting to take her phone, or pay her tab. Dan continued to wait outside the hotel for Serena to show up, but it was Blair who found her first. B summoned the feuding Chuck and Nate to her penthouse for "help" with Serena, who was lying in a crumpled heap in the elevator. The former friends banned together to order the maid to make coffee and draw Serena a bath while they reminisced about the good ol' days when they all battled hangovers together. But Dan crashed the happy reunion to find Serena and hear her version of what happened the night before. Her explanation? She'd cheated on him. That was enough to send him out the door. But everyone besides Dan could tell from her twitching and lack of eye contact that Serena was lying. Her friends then insisted on hearing the truth about what was causing her old bad habits to resurface. They reminded her that after all the terrible things they'd done, none of them was in a position to judge. This was Blair, who'd slept with Chuck in a limo; Nate, who'd had sex with Serena at a wedding where Blair was his date; and Chuck, who was, well, Chuck. Seeing that they'd made an excellent point, Serena caved and finally told the story of why Georgina was blackmailing her. And to make sure we really got the full story, the Gossip Girl producers decided tell it to us from two perspectives. While S was coming clean to her friends, Blair's maid (aka the most responsible adult on the show) was calling Lilly to tip her off to her daughter's behavior. Lilly ransacked Serena's bedroom, eventually finding the videotape Georgina had sent last week. Serena, and the tape revealed that after her fateful tryst with Nate at the Shepherd wedding, she'd met up with Georgina in a hotel room, where for reasons unexplained, Georgina had set up a camera to capture whatever happened between Serena and some guy named Pete. But when Serena arrived, she wasn't in the mood. Pete kept persisting, and Serena tried to buy some time by offering him some drugs. The drugs got Pete's mind off Serena pretty quickly. He was too busy having seizures and foaming at the mouth to notice her anymore. Serena called 911, but Georgina dragged her out of the room before help, or anyone who could get them in trouble, arrived. Serena stood across the street from the hotel and watched the paramedics carry Pete away in a body bag. Blair, Chuck and Nate promised to keep Serena's secret, but Lily had different ideas. She took a moment out from her own rehearsal dinner to scold Serena about the tape and threaten reform school. But a few words from Blair made Lilly realize there was something deeper going on with Serena. In an important scene we didn't get to see, Lilly learned the truth about Pete's death, called his parents, and convinced them to meet with Serena for an apology. Then, in another scene we didn't get to see, Serena confronted them, made peace, and everyone (except Pete) lived happily ever after. Meanwhile, Serena's friends were busy tracking Georgina down. Nate was scheduled to meet Vanessa for a date at Lincoln Hawk's big "Forgotten Bands of the 90s" show for VH1 Classic (with Lisa Loeb!). Vanessa casually mentioned that "Sara" was there with Dan, and Nate flew into action. He told Vanessa that Sara was lying about her name, and then hung up to plot his next move with Chuck and Blair. Soon, half the Upper East Side, including Serena and Lily were on their way to Queens to track down Dan and Georgina. But thanks to Vanessa's failed attempt at a confrontation, Georgina realized they were on to her and switched gears. She gave Dan a sob story, complete with tears that didn't smudge her raccoon-y eye makeup, about how she'd changed her name and moved to New York to escape an abusive ex-boyfriend. It didn't explain why people in New York knew her old name, but for a Dartmouth hopeful, Dan can sometimes be about as bright as the dim lighting in the bars these kids hang out in. By the time everyone arrived at the concert, Dan and Georgina were gone, and kissing on the steps to someone's apartment. Also kissing: Lily and Rufus outside of his concert. That will make things awkward at Lily's wedding next week. So, are you dying to see what happens next, or sad that next Monday night will mean our last trip to the Upper East Side until the fall? Do you think Lilly should go through with her wedding to Bart? And now that the kids are teaming up for good causes, like helping Serena, does this mean the end of all the bitching and backstabbing we've come to love on this show?
