Dancing With the Stars: Oh Yes, It's Ladies' Night!

Last night the ladies performed. Who brought it? Who's got work to do?

I was so excited to see tonight's Dancing With the Stars! The guys set the bar high last night and I knew the ladies would bring it, too. I was disappointed that I wouldn't get to see my favorite male pro, Maks, but it's great to see Louis back.

I went into the night with my favorites and my thoughts of who wouldn't do well. I didn't expect much at all from Priscilla Presley or Monica Seles, but I expected Kristi Yamaguchi to knock it out of the park. I was most intrigued, though, by Marlee Matlin's participation. How could someone that couldn't hear the music compete in a dancing competition?

The two ladies that have their work cut out for them are Monica Seles and Marissa Jaret Winokur. They had the opposite problems: Monica was stiff as a board and Marissa was so exuberant that she was all over the place. Marissa's dance was the most fun of the night, but the judges didn't love it. Monica got three 5s for a total score of 15, and Marissa got three 6s for 18 total points.

Shannon Elizabeth and Marlee Matlin were in the middle of the pack. Shannon's got a pair of legs on her that go up to her eyebrows. Once she gets comfortable in heels and learns how to work those legs, I expect to see her at the top of the Leaderboard. Tonight she received three 7s. Marlee was amazing. Her partner, newbie Fabian Sanchez, did an excellent job of choreographing so that there was always either eye or physical contact between the two of them. They got two 7s and an 8.

Priscilla Presley impressed the heck out of me. How old is that woman? Coming into this thing, I figured her to be one of the first out. I don't think that now. She was wonderful. She and her partner, Louis von Amstel, did a beautiful foxtrot. She was so smooth and graceful. They even dared to do a "death spiral," and they did it well. They were rewarded with three 8s to put them in second place for the night.

At the top of the Leaderboard, to no one's surprise, is Kristi Yamaguchi. I really expected big things from her with her skating background. It surprised me a bit to hear her say, in her preview clip, how hard of a time she had with the transition from ice to the dance floor; she said the position of the feet was throwing her off. She worked it out, though. She and Mark Ballas, her partner, did one of the best foxtrots that I've seen on the show. It was gorgeous. The judges agreed and gave them three 9s.

Next week the ladies have the Latin round ahead of them. They've got their opening night jitters behind them and I expect them all to rock it. Their scores and vote totals from tonight will be added to what they receive next week and one lady and one guy will be eliminated. I was surprised that they only had voting open for an hour after the show tonight. I hope you got your vote in for your favorite!
