Can't The Hills Stay in Paris?
MTV
Okay, so would anyone object if Teen Vogue let Lauren and Whitney stay in Paris for this whole season of The Hills? Seriously, all this show needed was a change of location to instill a sense of wonder, romance, and sophistication that the L.A. setting could never provide. Lisa Love was dead-on when she told Lauren it would be a very inspiring trip. Despite her fancy apartment, and all her great clothes, I can't say I've ever truly envied Lauren until watching her take that late-night Vespa ride through the "City of Lights," even if she was riding behind a sketchy musician with a cheesily opened shirt. I was glad to see Lauren shrug off the Brody drama and explore the city. What I was not glad to see was all the mistakes Lauren and Whitney made at their jobs! These girls (especially Whitney) are usually so levelheaded, but they seemed to leave their work ethic behind in L.A. First, they chose to pick up their own ball gowns instead of following their itinerary and fetching shoes for the debutantes, the real belles of the ball. The shoe store was closed when they arrived, but luckily, picking them up on time the next day didn't seem to be a problem. The girls just had to sacrifice their morning showers. But Lauren didn't learn from her mistake, and took another daring risk when she decided to stitch up her gown and wear it out to a club the night before the ball. I think I held my breath during the entire (uneventful) club scene, waiting to see if the dress would survive. It looked like Lauren was in the clear until the next day, when she left it hanging too close to a curling iron, leaving several large burn marks. Lauren's Teen Vogue career (which seems to be just for show these days anyway, considering she has her own fashion line now) seemed to be over, until Whitney got on the phone with the store and convinced them to loan Lauren a new gown, with only an hour to spare before the ball. I thought the white, strapless replacement gown was an improvement over the striped silver one she'd ruined. And Whitney looked beautiful in her black and gold dress. But honestly, our girls couldn't hold a candle to the French debutantes. They gave off an air of sophistication that no reality show star could ever hope to match. So the trip ended with Whitney deciding it was time to look for more challenging work, and Lauren dreading going home to see Brody and his insta-girlfriend. They would've been perfectly content to stay in Paris, and I couldn't blame them. Let's see, anything else to talk about? Oh yeah, Heidi and Spencer. After Heidi went home to Crested Butte, Colorado to get some space, the ever-needy Spencer followed to beg for forgiveness, leading to some hilariously awkward moments between Spencer and Heidi's disapproving parents. But Spencer's humility disappeared the second Heidi started asserting herself, making the valid points that their relationship had moved too fast, and she missed her friends and having a life outside of the relationship. He pulled the old routine of threatening to break up with her, just because she wanted him to loosen the reigns. This time, I hope the breakup actually happens. So next week, the drama, and maybe even Audrina, will be back. Then we'll be really back in The Hills.
