The Bachelor 12: Who Acts Like This on a First Date?
ABC
Finally, the new season of The Bachelor has begun. I'm intrigued by the new guy, Matthew Grant. He's an international banker who lives in London, England. First impression? He's decent-looking and his accent is sexy. I don't understand what a rich, handsome guy is doing on a show like this. Why can't he find his own girl? Oh well, the British females' loss is the American girls' gain. Tonight, twenty-five women were on a speed date for a rose. They ran the gamut from students and waitresses to authors and lawyers. There was even the daughter of Lorenzo Lamas. Some impressive women showed up to compete for this man. It's a shame, though, that the biggest impressions made were bad ones. Right out of the car, Amy was on my bad list. She posed, did a pirouette, made Matt do a 360 and then made a comment about his butt. Imagine me rolling my eyes here; I did that a lot during the show. Stacey, a student from Chicago, acted like she was drunk right out of the limo. And her bad first impression was not a fluke. She drank some more. She told Erin H. and Matt that she was bored by their conversation. She later walked up to him while he was talking to Erin S. and stuffed her panties down his pants! To his credit, he was not impressed. In fact, he was appalled. And then she wandered off and passed out. She literally lay down on a bed and passed out. Add a shaking of my head to the eye rolling here. They were desperate for his attention. Chelsea challenged him to an arm-wrestling match, which he let her win. While he was engaged in a political discussion with Denise, Carri got his attention by taking a bite out of aluminum can. All he could say was "Jeeze!" and laugh. Ashlee wrote and sang him this, umm, awful song and Marshana made sure he knew that she was "Miss Earth New York." The little get-to-know-you party broke into two groups, the classy and the classless. Some of those women had Matt shaking his head and rolling his eyes right along with me. Rebecca did some kind of dirty dance that had him looking askance and some of their language had me reaching for the soap. Matt is growing on me. He was not impressed by the trashy ones. He was able to have deep conversations with one girl and turn around and laugh with the next. He seemed to have a really good personality. He bypassed all the flash and glitz and gave the First Impression Rose to Amanda R. He said that she was down-to-earth and that she stood out to him. The Rose Ceremony was as amusing as ever. The sourpuss faces some of the girls made while he was calling names had me laughing. The tears flowing as the ten girls not chosen left had me laughing, too. They knew this man for, what, a few hours and they were in tears talking about their hearts being broken? Stacey was Stacey to the end, and she let us know that Matt just couldn't handle her. Next week I hope to start knowing a little more about Matthew and his chosen fifteen. The previews for the upcoming shows look fun. I'm actually excited for this season of The Bachelor!
