What? Another Episode of Lost in Which Nothing Happens?
ABC
So John and Ben and Hurley are still wandering around the jungle looking for the hut? I'm sorry, but they should have found the hut at the beginning of this episode, not the end. Okay, maybe it was a bit of a surprise that they found Christian there instead of Jacob, but that could have come earlier, too... as well as the revelation that Claire was hanging with Christian, which isn't much of a revelation since we guessed that's what she was off to do at the end of the last episode. So the big mercenary guy's gun jammed when he tried to shoot Michael? Didn't we already know the island wants Michael alive for something? So the big mercenary guy killed the ship's doctor, after the news arrives at the ship of the doctor's body washing ashore. Cool and all, but we already knew there was some sort of time differential happening between the island and the freighter. So Desmond's still mooning for Penny? Shocking news. (I wish they'd do something more with Desmond...) What did we learn from Lost this week? Barely enough to fill, well, that little dinghy Sayid sets off to the island on. Do we care that John was a preemie? (And shouldn't his six-months-pregnant teenage mom have actually looked, you know, pregnant?) Do we care that he didn't want to be a nerd as a teenager? Do we care that the Oceanic lawyer guys thinks it's a "miracle" that John survived that fall that paralyzed him? Okay, John's got a long history of miraculous survival. And? The idea that the Dharma people and/or the Oceanic people -- maybe they're the same people? -- have had their eye on John since childhood is intriguing. Or maybe they've been steering him toward getting on that plane. That certainly seems to be the suggestion in the scene with the hospital orderly/Oceanic lawyer. But why? Time to stop raising ridiculous new questions and start answering some of the many we're already pondering. But all we have are more questions. Is John a reincarnation of someone Important? (The creepy guy asks the boy John to choose an object that's already his in the same way that Buddhist monks figure out who the new dalai lama is.) Maybe John is reincarnated from himself (and hence the drawings of the black smoke monster)? Maybe John is his own father, after having traveled into the past like I think we already know Ben's island wormhole thingie can do? Now, that would be a weirdness worthy of this show... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
