American Gladiators: Spiderman Reigns in Semifinals
NBC
This was the first semifinal match on American Gladiators. Two of the four Contenders will make it through to the finals for the money and the shot at being a Gladiator. They've all had the benefit of competing already and watching their competitors compete. I expected a lot more from them and from the Gladiators. The women that competed this week were Shanay, the youth counselor and Siene, the gymnastics coach. They both had a 2:26 time in The Eliminator and looked to be very evenly matched. On the men's side, Evan, the sales clerk, set the record for The Eliminator with a time of 1:29 and Anthony, the firefighter, had a time of 41 seconds slower. He'll have his work cut out for him in the other events to get a big enough head start to give himself a shot at winning. The women were even throughout most of the match. Shanay got a five-point lead in The Joust when she was able to stay on the pedestal for a draw and Siene was disqualified for leaning over to Crush's pedestal Crush crushed those women. She got in some brutal blows to the head of both women. Shanay was only able to stay on by kneeling most of the time. The Gladiators can't do that, but I guess the Contenders can. We also got to see more of Siren, finally. She competed in three of the four events for the women. Siren was very impressive in Hang Tough. She basically wrestled both women off the rings. Siene tried to elude her by using her gymnastics training, but Siren was having none of that. Shanay tried to use her legs to keep Siren's legs from wrapping around her waist, and Siren countered by climbing on Shanay's shoulders and working her hands free. Evan, who I've renamed Spiderman, was like a little monkey. He was fast and nimble. He outmaneuvered Wolf in Hang Tough and taunted the Wolf again by racing up The Wall while Wolf tried in vain to catch him. In fact, Evan was about half way up the wall before Wolf was able to start! He set a new record in that event. In the Eliminator, Shanay had a 2.5 second head start. She lost her lead in the water, but took it back on the cargo net. She gave Siene another chance to catch her when she fell off the hand bike, but Siene wasn't able to take advantage of it. Shanay had no problem with the Travelator this time and won with a time of 1:51, over 30 seconds faster than her preliminary time and the fastest female time so far. The men's Eliminator was Evan's event. He had a five-second head start, but he didn't need it. He flew through the course with no problems at all. He bested his own record of 1:29 by 6 seconds. The way he competes, he is my favorite to take it all. That's good for the competition, but I don't think he will make a good Gladiator. He does well in the speed events, but not well at all in the strength events. Next week is the last semifinal match on American Gladiators. Who will win the chance to compete against Shanay and Evan in the finals? I can hardly wait to find out. Comments
