American Gladiators: The Soccer Mom Rules Again

Last night was the final Semi-Final match of this season's American Gladiator. Who joined Evan – the teacher or the preacher? Did the soccer mom continue to impress in her quest to join Shanay or did the rehab doctor derail that train? There were four very interesting contenders competing and only two spots left.

My favorites going in were Monica, the soccer mom and Alex, the teacher. Besides the fact that Monica was awesome, Venus, the rehab doc, just didn't impress me in her preliminary and her Eliminator time was horrid. Andy, the trash-talking preacher is a great competitor and I think he actually would make the best new Gladiator, but I'm just a sucker for Alex's quest for the money to continue his school's wrestling team.

Monica was impressive again. She blew through the events, scoring in all but the Pyramid. She flew past Venom in Hang Tough, dunked Siren quite quickly in the Joust, and shook Siren off her leg to get ten more points on the Wall. The only Gladiator to get the best of her on this night was Crush and, for a moment there, I thought Monica got past her.

Venus, on the other hand, continued her less than impressive run. She scored seven points in Powerball, the first event, and was shut out the rest of the way. It wasn't even close. Just like in her preliminary match, she'll depend on a mistake by her opponent in the Eliminator to get her to the final.

The men's matchup was a little bit more of a competition. Neither guy did very well in Hit and Run surprisingly, and they were held to a lone draw for Andy in Hang Tough. Alex is a little guy, and that worked against him in most of the contests, but he hung in there and kept the score close.

The men's Eliminator was first this week. Andy had a five-second head start, but Alex's preliminary time was about thirty seconds faster than Andy's. Both men ran good races, but both men struggled at the dreaded Travelator. Alex, though, was able to make it up first and he was the winner with a time of 1:49. Not a bad time, but still over 20 seconds slower than Evan.

The women's Eliminator wasn't as good of a race. Monica had a sixteen-second head start on Venus and she took advantage of it. She was almost at the cargo net before Venus even started. Venus was not as lucky this time. Monica fell off of the hand bike, but other than that, she had a clean race. The Travelator was not a big obstacle for her either. Monica took the win with a time of 1:54. As impressive as the soccer mom is during the events, her time was three seconds slower than Shanay's in the Eliminator.

The Finale of American Gladiators will be on Sunday night instead of its usual Monday night. Who will prevail to become the $100,000 winner and possible new Gladiator? Will Alex's magic continue or will Spiderman reign supreme? And will the soccer mom continue to rule or will under-the-radar Shanay sneak up and take her crown? Stay tuned!
