A mother is forced to face the self-destructive secret her daughter has been hiding -- bulimia -- and the fact that, in order for her daughter to start down the long road to recovery, painful issues must be confronted.Nina is a loving mother and dedicated child psychologist who helps distressed families address difficulties in their relationships. However, Nina ignores her personal struggles with her overbearing mother, as well as tensions that exist with her ex-husband, John. Nina also turns a blind eye to her daughter, Beth, who is confronting a mental and physical crisis alone. Beth is a talented ballerina and academic perfectionist who takes on an adult role with her mother, yet her father tries to prevent her from growing up. John is remarried with a new child and is trying to fit Beth into his new life. Beth uses bulimia as a way to purge herself of inner angst and gain control in her life. When Beth's secret is revealed, Nina and Beth must take difficult steps to win the battle against bulimia.
