Roseanne Conner is a blue-collar working mother trying to cope with a tumultuous family, composed of her husband Dan and three children: Becky, Darlene and D.J. Roseanne often wonders how she's going to pay the bills at the end of the month, especially since Dan's motorcycle shop failed and she is also concerned about Becky's involvement with with her boyfriend Mark, but Roseanne's sister, Jackie, is always there to lend moral support.
