Mickey Carlyle, a young track runner, aspires to be the perfect athlete after the sudden death of her father, a world-class runner. Determined to carry on her father's legacy, she turns her energies and trust to Coach Kurt Ansom. Her obsessive desire to be the best concerns her mother Margaret, who sees her daughter's grades and social life suffering. Mickey's naive need to please her coach is shattered when he rapes her. After weeks of depression and fear, Mickey decides to press charges against Ansom, but there is a tragic lack of support for her; no one, except her mother, believes her.
