It's not easy being green, especially if you were a designer on Project Runway Wednesday night. The 15 remaining contestants were charged with making cocktail dresses out of envirnmentally friendly materials, which didn't seem that difficult a challenge at first. But when the designers found out their models would buy all the supplies for the challenge, their forced smiles could not cover up the terror in their eyes. (In fact, three of them -- Wesley, Joe and Leanne -- all ended up with the same icky, satiny brown fabric.) In the sewing room, we got to know some of the designers a little better. Suede continued to annoy people by talking about himself in the third person. Korto had paranoid delusions that Wesley might have stolen her dress concept. Stella -- who coudn't stop talking about her design style as "tough," "urban" and "slick" -- is obsessed with leather. "I want to just sew leather. Burn it up, dye it up, grommet it, pyramid it, stud it, spike it. I want to make my leather." How very eco-friendly. We also learned that Blayne is actually kind of funny underneath all those distracting layers of orange skin and his annoying "licious" lingo. His Stella impression definitely has potential. Natalie Portman, who recently launched her own vegan shoe collection, was a guest judge in this episode. The designers seemed floored that such a huge celeb is on the show, and frankly, they weren't the only ones. Here come the models! Keith: His bubble dress meats old-fashioned window coverings seems uninspired. Terri: This standard navy dress with a ruffly looking neckline is okay, nothing special. Wesley: Here's the first of three awful brown dresses. Michael Kors: "For satin to satin to work it has to look like human hands didn't touch it. But this looks like 20 sets of human hands have touched it." Ouch. Jerell: This super-short skank uniform is several shades of blue with a heavily jeweled collar, skin-baring cut-outs and tacky fringe around the hem. Someone should get this dress over to the next Rock of Love cast immediately. Jennifer: This orange and gray dress is less fancy than most people's, but the color combo is pretty striking. Daniel: A little black dress with pockets. Can't really go wrong there. Joe: It's brown dress No. 2! This flowy A-line number one has a round cut-out under the chest, which is surrounded by rhinestones. It looks like a porthole. Next! Kenley: She made a stunning, form-fitting, high-neck couture dress. It's my fave. Kelli: Uh oh. Kelli's turqouise and gold concoction is genie-costume-meets home-ec-project. Good thing she has immunity this week. Suede: Based on this week's dress, we really want to like this guy. He weaved sewn strips of fabric together to make a fun, young dress that the judges raved over, and that Natalie Portman said she'd wear. (Maybe we should hit the mute button when he talks?) Stella: Turned out an asymmetrical mini dress that laced up the side. The judges like it and think it fits well. Blayne: A hot pink dress with a black side panel that demonstrates his passion for bright colors. Emily: A cute black and white dress that's as short as an ice-skating outfit. Korto: Her goal was to accentuate her model's curves with this dress, which had darts on the outside which made her hips look wide and square. "Ooooooh," says Tim Gunn with furrowed brow. Michael Kors: "I love a curvy girl, but even curvy girls don't want fins off their butt." Amen. Leanne: Leanne's dress -- the third brown one -- gave me flashbacks to when I was forced by my uncle to watch Star Trek as a kid -- it looked like something a futuristic alien species would have worn. Michael Kors: "It has too much going on. It's five dresses at once." Suede wins! (Mute.) His dress will be manufactured and sold on bluefly.com. Wesley's manhandled dress is too much of a mess for the judges. He and his shorts-and-blazer outfits are out. Most Popular Stories
