Press Tour Diary, Day 4: Breakfast with the Jonas Brothers
Pamela Sitt January 16, 2009

LOS ANGELES — The Jonas Brothers are here, and not a screaming teenage fan in sight! The boys are polite, articulate and pretty cute, even at this early hour. They’re here to promote JONAS, a new Disney Channel series which I caught part of last night during my Tylenol Cold-induced haze. I believe they were shooting some kind of home video.
So, the Jonas Brothers play brothers who are in a band called JONAS. What a stretch! What about these real-life rumors that one of the brothers is going solo?
Joe (who seems the most likely candidate to break out on his own): “I don’t think so.”
Kevin: “Rumors are always to be out there. I just found out I (supposedly) joined a wrestling club in Asia.”
The Jonas Brothers will be performing at the Inauguration celebration next week. What will they be performing for two of their biggest fans, Sasha and Malia Obama? Just a selection of their current hits.
Whoa. Now the session has ended and a horde of reporters wielding tape recorders are chasing the Jonas Brothers out the door…
Up Next: ABC Executive Session with Steve MacPherson
Steve just made a joke about telling his kids that the Jonas Brothers opened for him. I’m sure he’s a hero in his household today.
Were you happy with the casting on Dancing With The Stars? Particularly Cloris Leachman? “I thought it was a great group, and some wonderful surprises, too. Cloris was just over the top in such a fun way. We’re winding up the cast [for the new season] now. We’ve got a good core group, and we’re trying to round up some good ones.”
And the obligatory Jay-Leno-at-10 p.m. question: “We’re pleased. We think it opens up beachfront real estate to less bidders, if you will. … We’re looking at it, excited that there will be viewers left by the wayside that we can take advantage of.” So in other words, NBC is run by idiots.
How do you feel about the way Boston Legal ended? “I thought Boston Legal was a lot of fun. They really did it their own way, with the same irreverent fun that they’ve always gone about it.”
The future of Desperate Housewives and show creator Marc Cherry?: “We’re going to keep him on Housewives in some capacity until the end of the show, whenever that may be. He keeps saying he wants to end if next season or whatever, but I won’t let him do that.”
OK, so for all of you Grey’s Anatomy fans/haters — what about this “ghost sex” storyline between Denny and Izzie? “It’s not a ghost, which you will learn. When you ge to the end of the season, you see everything she had in mind. It might not be your cup of tea, but you’ll see how smart and insightful the storyline is.”
Is it time to give Grey’s spinoff Private Practice a second look, especially now that it’s moved to the post-Grey’s timeslot?: “I think on this season, they’ve really found the show. I think last season, there were a lot of good episodes, but as a whole they didn’t capture who she was. This season, we got back to Addison, a character people really love. I think we’ve really upped the stakes in terms of the quality of the medical stories we’re telling.” Plus: Crossover episodes coming up!
