Papa's Angels

Synopsis:
Television movie that follows a year in the life of Grins Jenkins, his wife Sharon and their children, from Christmas to Christmas. Just before the holidays, Sharon becomes ill and dies. With the help of Grammy, the family is carried through difficult times. Set in the 1930s.

Grins Jenkins is a devoted husband, father of four, carpenter and musician in a small Smokey Mountain community in the 1930s. Grins' wife, Sharon, shares an old Celtic Christmas fable with their 5-year-old son John Neal. According to legend, if one lights a new yule fire with a remnant from the previous year's fire, the spirits of the deceased come back to give comfort and courage. When Sharon becomes ill, Grins builds a glass room onto the family's cabin to give Sharon a view of the sun, moon and stars, while allowing her to be with him and the children, but Sharon soon passes on. Overcome with grief, Grins loses his passion for music and refuses to celebrate Christmas following Sharon's death. The children and Grins' mother, Grammy, determined to bring joy back into the house, realize they must band together in the spirit of Christmas. With their love and faith, and the last remains of last winters old yule log, the old Celtic legend comes to fruition.
