Lost: Not in PortlandSynopsis:
In flashbacks, we learn that Juliet was a medical researcher in Miami who was working for her nasty ex-husband when she discovered a drug that could make someone pregnant. She was sought after by a company that Ethan worked for, who wanted her to work for them in Portland. Juliet turned them down, saying that she could only work for them if her ex-husband was hit by a bus. The next day, her husband is hit by a bus and she agrees to take the job, but only for six months. However, the job is not in Portland. Back in real time, Jack has made an incision in Ben's kidney sack, and will only stitch him up when he knows Kate and Sawyer are safe on the beach. Ben wakes up and overhears Jack asking Juliet why she wanted him to kill Ben. Ben has a private conversation with Juliet which clearly gets to her. Meanwhile, Kate and Sawyer have only a short escape from their captors, as more "Others" are close behind. While running through the jungle they meet Alex, who promises to give them her boat in exchange for their help in rescuing her boyfriend Karl. After outsmarting the building guard, they find Karl locked inside a room, looking like he is being brainwashed. They grab him and head to the boat, but Pickett is waiting for them. Just as he is about to kill Sawyer, Juliet shows up and shoots Pickett to death. She lets Karl, Sawyer, and Kate go, but tells Alex that she must stay with her father, Ben. Jack finishes the surgery and Ben survives. Jack tells Kate, over the radio, to never try to rescue him. When Juliet gets back to Jack, she reveals to him that Ben had promised her she could finally go home if she saved Sawyer and Kate. Juliet has been on the island for over three years.
