Following a nuclear holocaust in the year 2319, the surviving portion of civilization establishes itself in the City of Domes. Because the city cannot support a large population, it is ruled that no one is permitted to live past the age of thirty. Those who defy this tradition in order to seek a place of freedom called Sanctuary are labeled "Runners" and become the prey of Sandmen, a warrior who pursues and destroys them.The series follows the adventures of Logan 5 and Jessica 6, two Runners who have defied the system, as they seek Sanctuary, and the efforts of Francis 7, a Sandman, to capture them.
