Characters include: Detective Robert Goren, a bright homicide investigator with well-honed instincts; his partner, Detective Alexandra Eames, a strong woman whose stylish edge meshes well in tandem with Goren; their commanding officer Captain James Deakins, a competent but ambitious political animal who knows how to survive and thrive behind the scenes; and non-nonsense District Attorney Ron Carver, who is a stickler for the crucial legal details.
