A contrite John McCain showed up at the Late Show With David Letterman last night -- arriving in New York by helicopter after his campaign plane was delayed -- sans Sarah Palin. No Palin on Saturday Night Live last night either. Not even Tina Fey as Palin. Boo! But McCain's VP pick got plenty of air time anyway as Letterman grilled McCain on Palin's qualifications to lead the country. It was one of the few times McCain got testy during the appearance, despite Letterman's relentless ribbing about his failure to show up for a scheduled visit last month. Let it go, Dave! He should be thanking McCain for delivering Letterman's highest ratings in almost three years. McCain also confirmed that Palin will appear on SNL, although he didn't say when. Internet reports have her appearing on either this weekend's show alongside host Josh Brolin, or the Oct. 25 show hosted by Mad Men's Jon Hamm. At this point, anticipation is so high, it's sure to be a letdown. Let's lower our expectations now. Meantime, McCain told Letterman he "screwed up" by bailing on him last month and Letterman finally agreed to put the incident behind them. In other manufactured feud news, Lauren and Heidi of The Hills have reportedly made up as well. Letterman's Top 10 Messages Left On Joe The Plumber's Answering Machine included the following: "This is Sarah Palin, do you consider yourself a maverick plumber?" Most Popular Stories
