While loads of celebrities complain about how the paparazzi afford them no privacy, others -- who usually aren't the subjects of tabloid fodder, anyway -- open up their families to the public by filming reality shows.
The latest to expose themselves are the Lamases, whose new show, Leave it to Lamas, premieres at 11 p.m. Sunday on E! Former Bachelor winner Shayne, along with her actor father Lorenzo, and other immediate family members will purportedly entertain with their familial antics.
For the most part, these programs aren't half as entertaining as we'd hope (celebs: they're boring, just like us!), but they all have their moments. And the Lamases will be hard-pressed to top some of the memorable scenes caused by their predecessors.
Here are some of our favorite moments:
Keeping Up With The Kardashians
Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian have their skirmishes throughout this series, but the biggest feud carried over two episodes. It began when Kim was buying a new car. Her sisters thought she was self-centered; Kim thought they were hating on her success. Then Khloe and Kourtney had a dinner, where they talked trash about Kim. Of course, Kim overheard it and got even more angry. The fight came to a head during a family vacation at a snowy lodge. Kim got fed up, left, and dragged her suitcase through the snow to a bus station. At the end of the episode, she returned to the lodge and they all kissed and made up -- but it was a good two episodes.
House of Carters
A bevy of insane moments happened on this show, in which five Carters siblings moved into a house together. But perhaps the most memorable was when Nick and Aaron began fighting over loud music at night, but ended in a giant brawl over Paris Hilton. Nick and Paris had broken up, and Aaron had taken her out -- which erupted into this profanity-laced tirade.
Run's House
With the calm and religious Rev. Run at the helm of this well-behaved entourage, the craziness is fairly minimal. But we were entranced with an episode where Run's youngest son, Russy, continuously destroyed his Gameboys out of frustration when he lost games. After his parents replaced the expensive gaming device several times (um, spoiled, anyone?), Russy was finally sent to anger management classes. Best to catch it early, before he ends up on Cops, right?
The Osbournes
Based on Ozzy Osbourne's past hard-partying reputation, it was hard to believe that a neighbor's frequent loud music in the middle of the night could cause Sharon to have a meltdown. But after a civil conversation with the neighbor went nowhere, the family matriarch finally reached the end of her rope, and chucked a rotting ham and bagels over the fence. The police came and went without incident, the music continued and finally Ozzy got involved, launching a log through the neighbor's window. Ongoing craziness included Ozzy's incoherent conversation skills and the family's five dogs, who pooped in the house more than they did outside.
This was arguably the most entertaining celebrity reality show that has aired. We miss you, Osbournes.
Snoop Dogg's Father Hood
Like many reality shows, the situations here seem totally contrived ... but that doesn't make them any less ridiculous. When Snoop Dogg leaves town to do a show, he specifically instructed Anthony -- a family friend that's like one of his children -- not to drive his car. Of course, Anthony and Snoop's son, Rook, take the car to Hollywood, park it illegally and it gets towed. The duo have no money to get it out of impound, but finally convince the clerk to waive the fee in exchange for one of Snoop's shirts and a pair of shoes.
In another ep, Snoop's wife calls a meeting of the house staff to instruct them not to let the rapper eat any more fried chicken because it's bad for his health. (But, um, smoking a pound of week a week is totally good for you, right?)
Denise Richards: It's Complicated
It's not so much complicated as it is dull, and we were kind of stunned when this ho-hum show was renewed for a second season. But that's not to say that Denise hasn't given us a few cringe-worthy moments. When Denise agreed to film a sketch for Funny or Die, her dad accompanied her to the photo shoot, where she did a sketch about her "funbags" (that included mentioning her "hoo-ha") as Pops watched in horror from across the room. "I think maybe he should have stayed home for this one. I looked like a nice slutty mom." Viewers were also subjected to detailed discussions of her bikini waxes and seeing her horrific rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at a Chicago Cubs game. Kill me now.
Living Lohan
Confession: We couldn't even watch the entire season of this show because it was boring. Mostly, it consisted of Dina Lohan flipping through tabloids looking for stories about Lindsay (who, at the time, was in and out of rehab and in general, a hot druggie mess), and trying to propel her younger daughter Ali to pop star fame, to no avail. This is the only horror from the show that we can recall: Ali saying that Lindsay was her role model and she wanted to be just like her.
