Top 10 New TV Sidekicks
House and Bones test out new foils and we look at the top-10 TV sidekicks.
Michael Weston in 'House' -
FOX
Sidekicks are all the rage this TV season. House has hired a new one, while over at Bones they're test-driving a new accessory every week. Wilson got fed up with playing House's enabler after the tragic death of his girlfriend Amber, who was killed in a bus accident after coming to a drunken House's rescue last season. And, to tell you the truth, as much as we love actor Robert Sean Leonard, we were getting a little sick of his character's never-ending search and rescue efforts. The bromance between House and Wilson was shattered and House has been moping around ever since. Until he hired private investigator Lucas (Michael Weston) to keep tabs on his former BFF. Wilson will be back, but right now there's a dynamic new force on the scene. Quick wit and similar moral values bind House with Lucas. While many fans have found him annoying, Lucas has added vitality to a show that seemed to be stuck in a dark rut. The idiotic plot line last season left Bones bereft of a forensic scientist, and more importantly, a cute sidekick. Brilliant young assistant Zach joined forces with a cannibalistic bad guy last season and now he's locked away. The Jeffersonian Institute has been getting a parade of would-be sidekicks including knows-everything guy, quiet guy, Eeyore guy, and useless information guy. Which brings us to our top-10 list of current favorite TV sidekicks: 10. Waylon Smithers (voiced by Harry Shearer) of The Simpsons has kept his lips firmly attached to diabolic Montgomery Burns backside for years. He's the longest-running sidekick in TV history. 9. Morgan (Joshua Gomez) of Chuck always has his buddy's back, even if he doesn't know that his pal Chuck is now a secret agent. When Chuck turned in his Buy More management application, Morgan raised his fist in the air and bowed his head. 8. Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) of 24 has been the spunky foil to Jack Bauer saving the world. Chloe's not one to sugarcoat: "I was inappropriately blunt. Sorry - I do that a lot. " 7. Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) of Entourage provides the laughs, while movie star Vince provides the cash. As Vince's manager Eric says, "Turtle, you're like a three-time lotto winner." 6. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) of Grey's Anatomy, is Meredith's person, the Willow to Meredith's Buffy. "Oh, great," she says to Meredith. "I'm stuck in the pit taking smack heads and gang bangers with my idiot interns and you're getting McDreamy'd in the elevator." 5. Mark St. James (Michael Urie) of Ugly Betty sucks up to Wilhelmina like a Dyson on carpet. "You are a horror movie I wish would never end," he tells Wilhelmina. 4. Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) of The Office plays right-hand man to bumbling office manager Michael. "I have been Michael's number two guy for about 5 years. And we make a great team. We're like one of those classic famous teams. He's like Mozart and I'm like ... Mozart's friend. No. I'm like Butch Cassidy and Michael is like Mozart. You try and hurt Mozart? You're gonna get a bullet in your head courtesy of Butch Cassidy." 3. Ando Masahashi (James Kyson Lee) of Heroes has his buddy Hiro's back, but still he says, "I wish destiny would lose our number." 2. Cameron Phillips (Summer Glau) of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a futuristic robot sent back to protect John Connor, the guy who grows up to lead the human resistance against the machines. Except lately she seems to be reverting back to the bad robot. 1. Sam Ax (Bruce Campbell) of Burn Notice helps outcast agent Michael. "You know spies," the former agent says. "A bunch of bitchy little girls." Most Popular Stories
