Synopsis:  Animated comedy series about the cinematic adventures and less-than-perfect real life of 8-year-old Brendon Small, an asthmatic, budding filmmaker. Brendon lives with his recently divorced mother, Paula, who endures his filmmaking obsession as she muddles through single-parenthood. He uses his filmmaking as a way of overcoming his shyness and dealing with the recent divorce of his parents, providing telling insight on the dysfunction of the adults in his life using his third-grade lens. Animated in "SquiggleVision" and featuring an ad-libbing voiceover process called "Retro-scripting."

Brendon writes, directs and acts in his short films, usually enlisting neighborhood friends to participate. The young auteur uses his filmmaking as an escape from the frustrations of his everyday life. While he can be shy and unassuming in school, when he gets behind the camera Brendon becomes a different person. Brendon's best friend Melissa serves as his coordinating producer, and counterbalances the filmmaker's frequent mood swings. Duane, Brendon's teenage neighbor and heavy metal aficionado, provides film scores, while Jason, slightly younger than Brendon and Melissa, and a step behind on the development curve, pitches in as part of the cast and crew. Off the set, Brendon often turns to Coach McGuirk, his soccer coach, for male bonding and what is invariably bad advice.
