Earlier this week, Heroes fired two executive producers over "creative differences." The decision to fire someone was smart, because Heroes has been in a nosedive lately, in terms of both its story and its ratings. However, firing people behind the scenes may not be enough. The Heroes cast is bloated, and the only surefire way to reboot the show is for the writers to go on a killing spree.

In season 1, they weren't afraid to kill off major characters like Isaac Mendez and Simone Deveaux. Now, however, they're keeping old characters while adding new ones like Daphne and Knox. The tie has come for Heroes to get bloody, ending the lives of several major characters so the show can start fresh and regain its water cooler status. Here I pick five characters who need to die.

Nathan Petrelli
Is there a more boring character on this show? Nathan can fly, but he almost never uses this power. He's stuck in a moral gray area, not knowing if he should embrace his powers or fight against them. This internal conflict is fascinating for a little while, but it's been more than two years and he still hasn't made up his mind. Much like Hamlet, this indecisive son needs to die.

Peter Petrelli
Peter should be the leader, the main hero who fights the villains and saves the day. Instead, he's a wishy-washy ex-nurse with severe parental issues. Before his dad sapped his powers, Peter possessed the ability of every hero he came into contact with, yet with all that power, he couldn't accomplish anything. He keeps getting lost or tricked into doing things, and his whiny lack of leadership has run its course.

Claire Bennet
The indestructible cheerleader has been stuck in her own world for more than two whole seasons. She cheers and pouts, but rarely is she central to the storyline. Her romance with West in season 2 was a huge waste of time, and this season she's been off in her own world, being captured by evil disgusting puppet masters. Heroes has never found a way to fully integrate Claire into the rest of the cast – she's never shared a single scene with Hiro. It's time to give up and let the invincible cheerleader die.

Mohinder Suresh
In the beginning, Mohinder had great potential to be the show's version of Professor X, bringing the heroes together to fight evil. Instead, the writers gave him super strength and turned him into The Fly. I appreciate seeing Mohinder do something more than get punched in the face, but he's now just another super-powered freak, and with Angela Petrelli adopting the role of Professor X, Mohinder is expendable.

Tracy Strauss (and Barbara)
I have nothing personal against Ali Larter, but she ran her course by the end of last season when Heroes bravely killed off Niki. This season, unfortunately, they brought Larter back as one of three identical triplets each injected with super powers. Thus far Tracy has provided nothing new to the show other than keeping Nathan apart from the real story for seven episodes. Not only does Tracy need to die, but Barbara, the as-yet unseen third triplet, needs to die as well so the show can drop Larter and find fresh blood.
