Episode 17 |  Season 1 2006 - 2007 |  First Aired: 2/26/2007
Synopsis:
Matt Parkman and Ted Sprague take HRG and his family hostage as they search for answers. More is revealed via flashbacks about Mr. Bennett, the agency for which he works, how he met Claude (his former partner) and the Haitian, and how he found Claire. It is revealed that Hiro's dad is at the top of the agency and was responsible for entrusting Claire to HRG, with the intent that if she manifested powers, he would hand her over. Parkman tries to keep the situation diffused as Ted becomes increasingly unstable. HRG makes Matt shoot Claire knowing she will live but hoping he can keep her hidden from the organization as all his secrets are blown wide open. HRG and Matt go to Primatech and get files for Ted, promising that they will explain everything. HRG's boss arrives, shoots Ted, who who starts to overload and inadvertently torches the house. Claire manages to tranquilize Ted, stopping his meltdown. HRG and the Haitian conspire to hide the truth from their superiors, forcing The Haitian and Claire to go underground while wiping HRG's memories and shooting him to make it look convincing.
