There are few bonds as strong as the one between a rich girl and her maid. This season on Gossip Girl, there may be many new romantic pairings (Nate and Jenny, Chuck and Vanessa), but perhaps the strongest and most entertaining relationship is between Blair Waldorf and her watchful maid, Dorota. She's been around since the start, but only this season has Dorota stepped up as a true surrogate mother figure for the spoiled Blair. She takes care of her when she's sick, looks out for her when she's in trouble, and most importantly, she can call Blair out when she's being bad. It's something no other character on Gossip Girl can do without being targeted for vengeance. Earlier in the season, in one of the more OMFG moments of the series, Dorota walked in on Blair while she was performing an act of self-gratification, and Dorota chastised her for it. If anyone had else had walked through that door, Blair would have devised a deliciously elaborate scheme to plot their downfall. Dorota is the only one who can stand up to Blair. If this relationship sounds familiar, it's because the basic dynamic of these two characters was established in Will & Grace, where the drunken socialite Karen Walker didn't stand for anyone standing up to her, except her beloved maid Rosario. Much like that relationship, Dorota can say or do whatever she wants, because Blair truly loves her. The trick is that Dorota genuinely cares for Blair as well. She's willing to put up with all of the nonsense and insults. When Blair's mom called Dorota, the ring tone was Britney Spears' "I'm a Slave 4 U." Aside from being hilarious, it also showed Dorota has a great sense of humor about her role in the Waldorf family. Despite the insults, the demeaning labor and being chastised against smiling while feeding ducks at the pond, Dorota stays by Blair's side through thick and thin. She provides the type of constant friendship Serena never does. She provides the unconditional love Chuck will never be able to provide. She offers the stability of a home life that her workaholic mother and jet-setting ex-pat father never can. On a show like Gossip Girl, full of questionable behavior, sex, drugs, underage drinking, and fickle romances that last about two episodes before moving on to the next girl or guy, the always dependable relationship remains between the spoiled rich Blair and her honest and loving maid Dorota.
