In bizarro news of the week, actor James Franco has announced he's joining the cast of a daytime soap.
The star of Spiderman and Pineapple Express will appear on long-running soap opera General Hospital for two months, starting Nov. 20.
Franco, 31, reportedly initiated the deal with the show's producers. In the understatement of the year, an exec producer said: "It's an honor that an actor of James' caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles."
Franco will reportedly play a mysterious character who cavorts with mobsters -- not a doctor.
