Friday Night Lights Is Back On TV -- Sort Of

The critical favorite makes its third season bow on DirecTV, but won't air on NBC until February.

Friday Night Lights is back on TV -- but not for me. The third season of the brilliant but low-rated NBC drama premiered on DirecTV last night, but who has DirecTV? Who even knows what that is? It's basically just a giant tease. The rest of us have to wait until February to see FNL on NBC.

Until then, the challenge is avoiding spoilers. I don't want to know anything that happens on the new season until I am watching it on my couch. But in the interest of professionalism and TV addiction, I've compiled a few nuggets making the Internet rounds today on the upcoming third season of the best show nobody's watching:

--Tim and Lyla form an odd couple as the bad boy and the Christian girl finally get together after a season of sexual tension.

--There's a new kid in town who stirs up competition for the quarterback spot on the field.

--Speaking of, this season will be more about football and less about drinking binges in Mexico, illicit affairs with the caregiver and accidental murders. Thank the TV gods.

--Tami Taylor, the coach's wife, is promoted from guidance counselor to principal at Dillon High School.

--Star receiver Smash and paralyzed former QB Jason Street will both be written out of the show this season.
