Fess Parker Dies at 85

Fess Parker, who played iconic television hero Davy Crockett and later Daniel Boone, died Thursday of natural causes in California. He was 85.

The actor spawned a Davy Crockett frenzy in the 1950s after appearing in a three-part Disney TV series about the early 19th century adventurer. Suddenly, every kid in America wanted a fur coonskin cap and toy rifle.

A decade later, Parker scored a second TV hit with Daniel Boone.

He also appeared in Disney films, including Old Yeller and Westward Ho! The Wagons.

Parker is survived by wife Marcella Rinehart and two children.
