Drop Dead Diva: The Chinese Wall

Jane and Fred discuss her frustration with her new feet and Fred’s belief that he could somehow get Stacy to fall in love with him. Jane meets her new client and his dog named David Beckham II. The client would like his money back from the cloning company that cloned him a golden retriever with a different personality than the original. Jane sees Deb’s mother and has a flood of emotions and is hit even harder when he finds out that Deb’s mother and father are divorcing. Grayson already represents the father, so Jane and Grayson have to put up a “Chinese wall” within the firm. In court, David Beckham II’s owner testifies and Hank the bailiff makes eyes at Jane, much to her surprise. Teri tells Jane about how she once went on a date with Hank and actually kissed him. With Deb’s parents in the office, Jane once again has difficulty controlling her inner emotions, especially when she finds out Grayson knew about the divorce for months and did not tell Deb the secret. Back home, Jane and Stacy discuss Grayson’s actions and Jane suspects Deb’s father of foul play. Jane and Deb’s mother discuss the items she wants from the settlement. Fred visits Stacy and attempts unsuccessfully to woo her with a song. In the dog case, Jane is once again distracted in court by the amorous bailiff. After the defendant produces evidence that could lead to a directed verdict, Jane buys her side some time. Jane and Hank discuss their date and Jane discovers she kissed him. Back at the office, Jane answers Deb’s mother’s mobile phone and finds out about Deb’s mother’s boyfriend. Jane goes to Deb’s house and recalls Deb’s beauty queen memories. Back at the office, Jane and Kim discuss the dog case and Kim and Teri head to the dog show to collect DNA samples. Jane and Deb’s mother discuss the degradation of the marriage and Jane removes herself from the case. Jane then discusses the case with Grayson now that the “Chinese wall” is down and Grayson re-endears himself to the inner Deb. In the David Beckham II case, the DNA investigation turns the case on its head and the defendants decide to settle, even though David Beckham II’s owner does not want to part with the new dog. Jane ties up the loose knots with Hank the bailiff. Fred decides to woo Stacy using the boom box method from “Say Anything” and makes a positive stride: Stacy now remembers his name. Deb’s mother returns to the office and Jane keeps the Deb emotions under control but remains torn up inside.
