Dr. Mark Sloan works as a medical consultant for the local police department where his son Steve works as a detective. They are assisted on investigations by Amanda Bentley, a pathologist who works with Steve as a medical examiner for the LAPD, and friend and colleague Dr. Jesse Travis.
