Renewal Roundup: Dexter, Knight Rider Get Picked Up

Showtime has picked up serial killer drama Dexter for an additional two seasons. The show is currently four episodes in to its third season, so the early pick-up came as a surprise to even the show's creator.

Why the rush? Maybe to deflect attention from all the tabloid press around Californication star David Duchovny? Who knows. At any rate, season four of Dexter is expected to begin shooting in spring 2009; both upcoming seasons will consist of 12 episodes

Meantime, NBC has picked up freshman series Knight Rider for a full season. This may be less an affirmation of the show -- which was bashed by critics -- and more an indication that the formerly dominant Peacock network is really, really desperate. And by "formerly," I mean "in the mid 1990s."
