Dalziel and Pascoe: The Wood Beyond

When animal rights activists raid the laboratory of Wanwood Pharmaceuticals, it appears that the group is protesting the merger of Wanwood with a big American corporation. But the truth is that the raid is motivated by a mysterious car accident that one of the raiders, Amanda "Cap" Marvell, suspects is a coverup for the murder of her brother. When Dalziel and Pascoe get involved, they discover the mystery does not end there. The story goes back to World War I and the reported desertion of Pascoe's grandfather from a hospital in England. It also involves a report of Wanwood using African children as "guinea pigs" for cancer research. Dalziel and Pascoe suspect that the laboratory is using children to illegally test new drugs, just as they tested drugs on wounded soldiers 80 years before.
