It turns out you can believe everything you read on the Internet. After a month of widespread speculation, CBS has confirmed that Laurence Fishburne will join the cast of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in its upcoming 10th season. Fishburne was rumored to be a top candidate to replace departing series star William Petersen. John Malkovich reportedly turned down the role.
Fishburne starts shooting in September and is expected to first appear on the Dec. 11 episode. He'll play a mysterious professor who may or may not have some funky serial killer DNA. Is this CSI or Heroes? Maybe the new character's eyes will turn black and start bleeding whenever he gets upset. Oh, wait.
In a conference call with reporters, Fishburne said, "We have a lot of stuff to work out like, 'What's the character's name?'" Fishburne also said he'd never seen an episode of CSI until he met with producers about the part.
CSI's new season premieres Oct. 9. Petersen's final episode is expected to air early next year.
