The series focuses on the activities of the staff and clientele of Cheers, a Boston bar run by Sam Malone, a former relief pitcher for the Red Sox. After the departure of Diane, Sam sells the bar and returns to find it managed by the business-oriented Rebecca Howe. Carla marries Eddie and is expecting twins, while Frasier and Lilith become engaged. Norm and Cliff remain habitual residents of the bar.
