On Tuesday night ABC will be airing the lesser known, but still classic Peanuts special, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. There’s no Great Pumpkin or sad scrawny tree in this one, but there is the delightful sight of the gang gathered round the (ping-pong) table for a traditional meal of popcorn, toast, and jellybeans.

If you’ve got a houseful of company coming over on Thursday, you will definitely be able to sympathize with old Chuck, as Peppermint Patty invites herself and the rest of the gang over to his house for Thanksgiving, then proceeds to complain about the food. (Does this sound familiar to those of you with in-laws?) I didn’t realize until I watched it again recently what a pushy bitch Peppermint Patty is! And she doesn’t even have the decency to show up in something dressier than soccer sandals. Fortunately, Marcy gives her a talking to and sets her straight.

I have always made a point of tuning in for It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas, but I’d forgotten about A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving until last year, even though I’m sure I saw it as a kid. If, like me, you love the Peanuts Halloween and Christmas specials, but have overlooked this one recently, you should definitely tune in on Tuesday at 8 pm.
