Tricia Helfer in 'Battlestar Galactica' -
Sci-Fi
Anyone in the last two months who has asked me what the best show on television is has heard me answer "Battlestar Galactica." The first half of its fourth and final season wandered off the point a bit too much for my taste, but the half-season climax last spring was shattering and the last batch of ten episodes has followed in that vein, as the crew of Galactica and the civilians under their protection dealt with the unimaginable disappointment of discovering that their hoped-for new home on Earth was a wasteland. The series concludes on Friday (SciFi, 9 PM -- take note of the special time), and while details are scarce, we've been promised answers to the lingering questions still out there, such as exactly what Starbuck is at this point. And with Bill Adama (Edward James Olmos) preparing a seemingly foolhardy mission to rescue little Hera, it's likely that not all the good guys are going to have a happy ending. Raise a toast to the toasters. Also this week: Monday: Kyle XY (ABC Family, 9 PM): It's the end of the line after three seasons for the show about the hunk with no bellybutton. Kyle discovers that Latnok's and Cassidy's plans involve the creation of even more children like him, and he goes on the warpath to prevent that from happening. Tuesday: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC, 10 PM): The investigation of a multiple murder leads to a former dancer who now owns a strip club, played by an actress synonymous with all manner of lurid behavior, Carol Burnett. The episode also marks the return of Stephanie March as the series' original ADA, Alex Cabot, though it's unclear how permanent a situation this may be. Wednesday: CSI: NY (CBS, 10 PM): Typically, lip-syncing little sis Ashlee Simpson and her megadork husband Pete Wentz only commit crimes against music, but they guest star here this week as a pair of ineffective criminals in a story that involves the dead wife of a former medical examiner and an unusual batch of heroin. Thursday: Ugly Betty (ABC, 8 PM): This series, which seemed so hot when it debuted in 2006, is heading for a short hiatus after this week, during which ABC has some decisions to make about its future. And because sex sells, Marc and Wilhelmina make plans for an issue of Mode dealing with sex (replacing the usual investment tips and coverage of the crisis in Pakistan, I assume). Also, Betty gets a makeover courtesy of the usually unhelpful Marc and Amanda. Sunday: Big Love (HBO, 9 PM): There were a few slow spots early on, but the third season mostly proved to be worth the very long wait. The season finale has Bill enlisting help in his latest effort to vanquish Roman Grant and the incredibly weird Greenes; Sarah, who has been awfully impulsive of late, makes a decision about her future plans; and Nicki comes face-to-face with someone out of her past. Sunday: Flight of the Conchords (HBO, 10 PM): I'm not sure if these guys can possibly do another season given how hard it is to write the songs, but I sure hope they find a way, because this is like nothing else on television. The second-season finale finds Bret and Jemaine evicted, and taking the desperate step of moving in with superfan Mel. Most Popular Stories
