Battlestar Galactica may be winding down to its final season, but the news isn't all bad: Sci Fi Channel has greenlit the BSG spinoff series, Caprica. The prequel is set 50 years before Battlestar Galactica and will follow two rival families, the Graystones and the Adamas.

Caprica stars Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcolmson and Polly Walker and will go into production next summer in Vancouver. Sci Fi has ordered 20 hours for season one, including a two-hour pilot. It is expected to premiere in 2010.
