Synopsis:
Foreign adoption is often a wonderful opportunity for couples desperate to have a family. But what happens when well-meaning parents set out to rescue abandoned children and those children are so damaged that they act out in disturbing, sometimes life-threatening ways? In some extreme cases, the problems in the family become so large that, not only are they financially and emotionally spent, the adoption has tragically resulted in death. Families faced with these incredibly stressful situations sometimes choose to end or "disrupt" their adoption -- the term given to the reversal, or giving up of their child. Juju Chang reports on straining relationships between American parents and foreign-born adopted children and the hope to save these children with a woman known as the "adoption whisperer."
