Tangled Up in Hues: Excellence in Rock Portraiture

|City Of New Orleans. Nelson, William (American. Born 1933.) Although the characteristic costume of bandana and braids are emblematic of "outlaw" troubadour Willie Nelson, the polyglot Native American overtones on the cover of this 1984 LP reveal the signature vestments in their most compelling context, appropriate for the singer's first recording of "Wind Beneath My Wings." As the Nelson specter glides over the ranges of the American Southwest as if suspended in dream state, the feather and diamond in his hair and ear, respectively, recall a legend of the native Passamaquoddy tribe about two rival bothers who fell in love with the same maiden and built a canoe that flew to the heavens.
